Elective Classes Session 1 – May 25, June 1, 8, 15, 22
Class: Becoming a Contagious Christian
Instructor: Dana Olson
Are you eager to share your faith with others, but you don’t know where to start and/or you’re flat scared? Becoming a Contagious Christian will help you learn how to share the gospel in a natural and powerful way while being the person God made you to be. We will look at different styles of evangelism that fit your personality and how to build and deepen relationships in your sphere of influence.
Class: The Freedom of Forgiveness
Instructors: Ann Anderson & Aaron Olson
If you’ve ever struggled to give up a grudge or let go of a bitter spirit toward someone who has wronged you, you’ll want to consider God’s remedy in Scripture: Forgiveness! Join us for a look at the Biblical principles for forgiving others and for accepting God’s forgiveness, which lead to freedom and joy.
Class: Five Smooth Stones for Parents & Grandparents
Instructors: Pastor Mark & Carol Wheeler
As a young man, David faced the giant Goliath with a slingshot and five smooth stones. Assuming that he learned that strategy at home, how can we prepare our children and grandchildren to face their giants? This course will cover five key lessons that we can teach our children to prepare them to face life’s challenges.
Elective Classes Session 2 – June 29, July 6, 13, 20, 27
Class: End Times Prophecy 101
Instructor: Dale Brinkman
What is God going to do to complete His prophetic plan? Where are we in God’s timeline? How can we prepare for what is yet to come?
Class: The Cross & The Crescent
Instructor: Rob Wingfield
What is the difference between a Shiite and a Sunni? How did Islam originate? What do Muslims believe? Where do the Crusades fit in the equation? How do you share the gospel with a Muslim? These and other questions will be considered in the class on understanding Islam.
Class: Coffee-cup Counseling; or How to be a Caring Friend
Instructor: Pastor Mark Wheeler When a friend calls and asks for help, how do you decide what type of help to provide? When do you listen and when do you act? How do you express caring without becoming overwhelmed by their burden? This course won’t prepare you to hang out your shingle and become a licensed psychologist, but it will give you some practical ideas on how to be a caring friend.
Elective Classes Session 3 – August 3, 10, 17, 24, 31
Class: The 4 Loves by C. S. Lewis
Instructor: Ralph Graves
The Four Loves, by C.S. Lewis, describes three natural loves and the fourth, agape or Godly love, that brings the first three to their fullest expression. We'll explore how Lewis' faith informs this warm and wise classic. Please try to buy or borrow a copy of the book to read outside and bring to the class.
Class: Genesis, Intelligent Design, Creation, Evolution, and Following Jesus Christ
Instructor: John Bjorkstam
Beliefs with respect to accidental, or God directed creation, intelligent design, and evolution for a major divide between Christians and Secularists. Unfortunately, a similar divide exists within the community of Christians. In this class we will discuss the various points of view, focus on the origin of some of the problems, and how they relate to interpretation of the Genesis account. Among the points to be considered will be the extent to which differences may affect what it means to be a follower of Christ.
Class: Favorite Hymns and Praise Choruses
Instructor: Bob Lepse
Music is a major component of worship -- corporate and private. Scripture and spiritual truths put to a singable tune help us remember. This class will feature a selection of often sung favorite hymns and praise choruses. Brief biographies of some composers, and stories behind the songs and hymns will be shared. We will reflect on their scripture basis, learn of people and events behind the words, and listen and/or sing old and new songs of our faith. On the first Sunday class (August 3) we will present some of my favorite songs and stories behind the lyrics. Then the class will be presented with some options for the following four weeks. With that input, you can help shape the list of songs and composers to be featured. |
